Aware of the current healthcare issues, the Chinese government is pushing forward healthcare reforms on several fronts. The ambitious program to create an adequate domestic healthcare infrastructure, involving the setting up of city and county disease control and prevention centres, and regional healthcare systems, will generate substantial investment opportunities in the industry for the next ten to twenty years. |

It is estimated that there will be a five-fold increase in urban consumer spending over the next 20 years in China, up to US$2.3 trillion a year. On the one hand, the consumer retail industry is rapidly modernizing and consolidating. On the other hand, the growth is once again being promoted by the Chinese government, whose ultimate goal is to strengthen internal demand and reduce its dependency on the traditional export-oriented sectors. A significant long term investment opportunity therefore exists. |
